What Happens on the Day of Your Installation

Once you’ve accepted your quote, our office team will be in touch to arrange your installation date – we can normally get to you within 2 weeks of acceptance.

Each of our engineers typically completes two installations per day, and a standard installation takes around 3 hours.

If you have a preference for a morning appointment (engineer usually arrives between 8:00–9:00am) or afternoon appointment (arrival is less precise as it depends on the morning job, but generally around lunchtime), please let our office know when booking your date.

On the day, your engineer will:

  • Send you a message with their ETA before arriving.
  • Walk you through the installation, confirming the charger location and cable route to make sure you’re happy, before starting work.

A Few Things to Note…

Preparing for the Day

To help us complete your installation smoothly, please:

  • Clear the area around your fuse board/consumer unit.
  • Make sure the proposed cable route is accessible.

This helps our engineers work efficiently and safely.

Do I Need to Be at Home?

Yes – someone over the age of 18 must be onsite when our engineer arrives. This is so they can:

  • Confirm the charger location and cable route before work begins.
  • Be available at the end of the installation to go through the charger app setup and handover.

You don’t need to be present for the full duration of the installation but we do ask that an adult is available at both the start and end of the appointment.

Cable Routing

We typically use a cable around 16mm in diameter (similar in thickness to a garden hose). It’s suitable for indoor and outdoor use and will need to run from your consumer unit or electricity meter to the charger.

We’ll have reviewed your survey photos and floorplan in advance, but please let us know if the cable needs to run across an internal decorated wall. In those cases, trunking (a protective cover) may be required, which will be reflected in your quote.

We always aim to find the neatest and least obtrusive cable route possible. If this involves work above head height, in crawl spaces or routing the cable under floorboards we will more than likely have carried out an onsite survey and will have allowed more time to complete your installation as it is classed as non standard.

If anything has changed between the time we have issued your quote please do let the office know before your engineer arrives.

Power Off

Your power will need to be switched off for up to 45 minutes while the installation is completed (although it’s often less). Your engineer can usually be flexible on when this happens to cause the least disruption.

Charger App Setup

Once your charger is installed, your engineer will:

  • Help you connect and log in to the charger app.
  • Show you how to schedule charges and check usage (where available).
  • Make sure you’re comfortable with the basics before leaving.

No Vehicle? No Problem

You don’t need your EV to be present for the installation. Many customers choose to have their charger fitted before collecting their vehicle, so it’s ready to use straight away.

Our engineers carry specialist testing equipment that ensures your charger is fully operational, even without a vehicle connected.
