Can I have my charger installed on a post?

Charger Posts Guide

Of course you can! Whilst most customers are able to have their charger installed on a wall it’s often the case that there isn’t anywhere suitable to fit a charger close to where the car is parked. This can often be the case with long driveways or with parking spaces that are further away from the customer’s home.

What sort of posts can I have installed?

We offer a range of different options of free-standing posts from brushed Stainless Steel through to powder coated mild steel and timber. They typically are installed onto a concrete base to keep them secure and are custom made to suit the particular charger that is being installed.

Are they difficult to install?

The main challenge is normally sorting out the groundworks for the electrical cabling to reach the charger and the charger post. Sometimes this is as straightforward as a trench through the garden and other times it can involve digging up the highway and agreeing wayleaves with neighbours or other freeholders.

Are they expensive?

A Stainless Steel post costs ~£200 plus installation which depends on the amount of groundworks involved and the type of ground that needs to be crossed. It’s certainly more expensive than fitting your charger to a wall but it often ends up as a better solution – especially for something you’ll be using most days!

What else do I need to know?

Often charging posts are installed a distance away from the house, so it’s worth checking if you can get a Wi-Fi signal at the location. If you can’t we can always either run an ethernet connection to the charger or install a charger that has a built in SIM card for a 4G connection.
